A Webster man was arrested on animal cruelty charges last week after police found nine French Bulldogs being kept in his home with no access to food or water, according to police.
On Aug. 22, officers arrested 34-year-old Lehi Pichardo on a warrant for nine counts of felony animal cruelty, Webster police said in a press release Wednesday.
Webster police began investigating Pichardo on Aug. 4 after receiving a tip alleging that he was neglecting French Bulldogs he was keeping at his home, police said. Investigators discovered that the dogs were “living in very poor conditions both inside and outside of the residence.”
“The animals were in poor health and did not have food or water readily accessible.” police wrote.
Investigators could not determine whether the French Bulldogs were up-to-date on their vaccinations, but determined that Pichardo did not have the kennel license required to legally possess nine animals, police said. As a result, Webster Animal Control removed the dogs from his home, and police sought charges against him through Dudley District Court.
The French Bulldogs are still in the custody of Webster Animal Control, but have received veterinary care at local animal hospitals, police said. Pichardo was released on bail during his arraignment in Dudley District Court.
No further information about the case has been released.
