Blackstone-Millville Regional High School will be closed Friday after a student told police a threat was made against them and the high school on social media.
While an investigation into the threat by police in Millville and Blackstone determined it was likely not credible, the school is closing “out of an abundance of caution,” Blackstone-Millville Regional School District Superintendent Jason DeFalco and Blackstone Police Chief Gregory Gilmore said in a joint statement. Closing the school will also allow police to continue their investigation, officials said.
Both the middle and elementary schools will be open Friday with an increased police presence. Officials noted neither was mentioned in the threat.
“Our first and foremost concern is for the safety of our students. This is an extreme step, but it’s taken with your children in mind,” the statement reads.
