The heat wave across Massachusetts continues Tuesday, as high temperatures aggravated by humidity levels continue to reach toward 100 degrees.
What could make Tuesday feel different from Monday, despite the heat, is a chance for mixing between the heat and humidity, according to the National Weather Service. This should cause the air to be drier and keep humidity low in the afternoon.
Daytime highs are expected to be between 88 and 94 degrees, with clear skies all day, forecasters said. But heat indices could make temperatures feel like anywhere between 95 and 100 degrees over two hours. Nighttime lows should dip down between 65 and 70 degrees.
The humid yet drier conditions could leave the region close to seeing a Heat Advisory, but forecasters are “thinking we’ll fall short of the two consecutive day threshold” for an advisory.
“Regardless, it will be hot and humid, although not to the extent as what we experienced earlier in the summer,” forecasters wrote.
Wednesday could see the most active weather, with high heat indices and hot temperatures and a chance for showers and thunderstorms, forecasters said. Daytime highs could be between 87 and 93 degrees, but elevated dewpoints could leave temperatures feeling like they are in the mid- to high 90s.
Later in the day, a cold front should reach southern New England and bring a chance of thunderstorms, forecasters said. But this cold front’s timing could offset the peak heat, potentially impacting the severity of any storms.
This cold front should exit the region Thursday and could bring additional showers and possible thunderstorms to Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, forecasters said. Thursday should see daytime highs reach between 85 and 90 degrees.
Dry weather and cooler temperatures should fully return on Friday, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures ranging between 82 and 87 degrees, forecasters noted. This kind of weather should carry on through the weekend, but forecasters anticipate temperatures and humidity levels to be back on the rise starting Sunday.
