Mass. heat wave carries into Wednesday, along with chance of rain, thunderstorms

With another day of hot weather expected to be present across Massachusetts on Wednesday, there’s also a chance of isolated rain and thunderstorms making their way to the region.

Mostly clear skies should continue Tuesday night as fog enters the Cape and Islands and Rhode Island, according to the National Weather Service. This should dissipate by Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, temperatures should hike up into the low 90s, with high humidity levels leaving temperatures feeling slightly hotter, forecasters said. Daytime highs should reach as high as 92 degrees, the weather service said in a post on X.

Combined with this heat is a weak cold front that could trigger potential scattered showers, thunderstorms and marginally severe wind in the afternoon, forecasters said. Rainfall across Western and Central Massachusetts could total over 1 inch. The front should arrive after peak heat, which leaves the chances of instability low as it moves east.

Across the major cities, rainfall totals are expected to be lower than 1 inch. Boston and Worcester could see less than a tenth of an inch (after 8 p.m. in Boston and before 2 a.m. in Worcester), forecasters said. Springfield could see as much as between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. All three cities could see higher amounts.

The cold front should mostly be to the east by Thursday morning, but cloudy skies and humidity could continue the possibility for more scattered rain and thunderstorms, forecasters said. Showers could appear in the morning or later in the day, with a chance for rain coming back before 10 p.m.

Daytime highs should be lower, between 79 and 87 degrees, forecasters said. As the day continues, humidity levels should continue to wane.

More cooler and less humid weather is in store for Friday and Saturday, with highs on Friday ranging between 76 and 86 degrees, forecasters said. High temperatures could return on Sunday before a cold frontal system possibly brings another round of rain starting Monday.
