Mass General Brigham’s new AI tool could save lives during extreme heat waves

If a new artificial intelligence collaboration is successful, the largest hospital system in Massachusetts will be able to help predict local extreme heat events, identify at-risk patients and deliver automated warnings.

Mass General Brigham announced Wednesday it will team up with IBM to create an AI tool for health care systems and community health centers faced with challenges posed by heat waves increasing in both frequency and severity.

It’s part of IBM’s Sustainability Accelerator program, which solicited for proposals last year from nonprofit and government organizations focused on technology-driven projects to increase resiliency within cities, in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11.
