Mass. Election 2024: Results 11th Middlesex District state House

Democrat Amy Mah Sangiolo and Republican Vladislav are running to represent the 11th Middlesex District on Beacon Hill.

Incumbent Democratic state Rep. Kay Khan announced in February that she would not seek reelection, according to Fig City News. Khan was the longest-serving member of Newton’s state delegation.

Sangiolo won 83% of the vote during the September primary.

She served on the Newton City Council for 20 years and currently, works in the state Attorney General’s Office assisting people facing eviction and foreclosure.

She is also the co-founder of Fig City News, a news blog covering Newton.

Sangiolo has emphasized environmental issues throughout her career, according to her campaign website.

Climate change is “an existential crisis threatening all that we hold dear, including the very livability of our planet,” she wrote on her website. While Massachusetts “is considered a leader in climate action … there is much more to do.”

“But to truly meet the urgency of the moment and reach the state goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, we must do much more, and we must have a partner on Beacon Hill to help us,” she wrote.

Yanovsky, a veteran, businessman, health care professional and educator, was born in the former Soviet Union, according to his campaign website.

He advocates upholding current immigration laws. Massachusetts, in his words, “still grapples with some of the same issues and debates surrounding immigration policy and enforcement.”

Yanovsky is running to “champion policies that support and strengthen the family unit,” according to his campaign website.

Aware of the challenges of being a Republican on Beacon Hill, Yanovsky said during an Oct. 1 debate that he would be a “speed bump” to overspending and a voice against excessive taxation, Fig City News reported.
