Masataka Yoshida wasted little time getting his first hit of the 2025 MLB season.
And his first RBI.
The Boston Red Sox designated hitter, who was playing in his first game of the year Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies, hit a line-drive single to center field on the third pitch of the at-bat in the bottom of the second inning.
Yoshida hit the ball 97.6 mph off the bat.

The 31-year-old began the season on the injured list with a shoulder injury. Yoshida missed 93 games after he underwent major surgery last October.
“You can see it in BP now — he’s backspinning the ball the way he did in ‘23,” manager Alex Cora said on Wednesday. “It’s just a good at-bat, a patient at-bat, he’ll put the ball in play with men in scoring position. He’ll drive the ball when he needs to. I’m very happy to have him.”
Yoshida continued to see the ball well when he drove in his first run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning with his second single of the game to give the Red Sox a 20 lead over Rockies.
