HOUSTON — Masataka Yoshida is not in the Red Sox lineup Wednesday against the Astros at Minute Maid Park. Wilyer Abreu will make his first major league start. He’s playing left field and batting seventh.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m., eastern.
The Red Sox will try to avoid a third straight loss to the Astros after dropping the first two games of this four-game series. Both Alex Cora and Alex Verdugo were ejected from Tuesday’s game for arguing balls and strikes. Boston has made five errors in the two games.
Abreu made his major league Tuesday, replacing Verdugo who got thrown out during the fourth inning. He went 2-for-3 with a double and run.

Chris Sale (5-3, 4.50 ERA) will start for the Red Sox. Opponents are 3-for-30 (.100 batting average) against him in his two starts back from the IL. Righty José Urquidy (2-3, 5.21 ERA) will start for the Astros. He is 3-0 with a 2.50 ERA, 20 strikeouts and one walk in three career starts (18 innings) against Boston.
But hitters on the Red Sox active roster are a combined 10-for-32 (.312) against Urquidy. Rafael Devers has gone 3-for-10 with a homer, double, no walks and five strikeouts against him. Trevor Story is 3-for-8 with two doubles against him while Alex Verdugo is 3-for-8 with one double.
