‘Margaritaville’ singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett dies at 76

‘Margaritaville’ singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who turned beach-bum life into an entertainment empire, has died, the Associeted Press reports.

Buffett’s official website also reported his death prominently on its homepage Saturday morning, with text over a photo of the singer wearing a sunhat and sunglasses, sitting casually in what appears to be a sailboat, with his hand resting on the tiller in the midst of water.

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond the measure by so many,” the site said.

The information was followed by Buffett’s signature and the years 1946-2023. He was 76 when he died.

A similar image was posted to Buffett’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 2:07 a.m. Saturday. That post had already been seen 2.4 million times as of 6:45 a.m. and garnered hundreds of comments, including many quoting or referring to the singer’s own songs: “Enjoy your cheeseburger in paradise my friend, see you in margaritiville RIP,” wrote @juancapore.
