Man dragged by car, robbed at gunpoint trying to buy vape cartridges, police say

A man was robbed at gunpoint and dragged by a car in December after he was trying to buy vape cartridges in Massachusetts, according to the Tewksbury Police Department.

Isaiah Polston, 19, of Chelmsford, now faces multiple charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm), in connection with the robbery, the police department said in a press release.

Around 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 5, a man told police he had been robbed at gunpoint by a group of suspects in a car as he was attempting to buy vape cartridges. He also had scrapes and bruises from being dragged by the car, police said.

Officials identified Polston as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

On June 25, Polston was in Lowell District Court on an unrelated matter. Police took the 19-year-old into custody and arraigned. He was charged with armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm) and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle).

He was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing that was held on June 27. After the dangerousness hearing, Polston was released with conditions that he wear a GPS monitoring bracelet and stay away from an exclusion zone, the press release stated. He must also obtain a substance use evaluation and mental health evaluation.

Polston is expected back in Lowell District Court on Aug. 13.
