A 37-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash on Route 18 in New Bedford early Sunday morning, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
New Bedford police responded to a 911 call about a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Route 18 near Union Street around 2:30 a.m., the district attorney’s office said in a press release Monday. At the scene, they found the man in the left lane between Union and Elm Streets receiving CPR from a civilian.
New Bedford police took over life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, the district attorney’s office said. He was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead a short time later.
Police found the man’s motorcycle a short distance from where they located the man, the district attorney’s office said. The preliminary investigation suggests he lost control of his motorcycle prior to the crash, which does not appear suspicious.
The man’s identity is being withheld until authorities have notified his next of kin of his death, the district attorney’s office said. New Bedford police and the district attorney’s office are investigating the crash.
