Man charged in connection with fatal assault of 64-year-old in Mass.

A 39-year-old man is facing criminal charges after prosecutors say he assaulted a 64-year-old man on Saturday evening in Framingham, leading to his death.

Craig West is charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery on a person over 60, said Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Framingham Police Chief Lester Baker in a joint statement. West will be arraigned in Framingham District Court Tuesday morning.

A witness called 911 around 4:55 p.m. Saturday to report an assault on the sidewalk on Concord Street in Framingham. There, police found the victim, identified as Oezel Sari, 64, who was responsive but injured from the attack, according to the statement.

Sari was taken to a hospital, where he died on Monday, officials said.

Prosecutors say video surveillance found at the scene showed West and another person approach Sari. The video, according to prosecutors, shows West physically assaulting Sari before fleeing the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of Sari’s death.

The incident remains under investigation.
