A man was arrested and charged on Monday after he exposed himself at a Walpole playground near a parent and several young children, according to police.
Walpole resident Matthew Springer, 24, pleaded not guilty to charges of open and gross lewdness, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer during his arraignment in Wrentham District Court on Monday, according to court records.
Police began investigating Springer after a 911 caller reported seeing a man expose himself at the Bird Park playground around 9 a.m., Walpole police said in a press release. At the time, a parent and several young children were nearby.
Another man witnessed the incident and yelled at the suspect, who then ran from the scene, police said. The other man chased after the suspect, but eventually lost sight of him.
Walpole officers soon responded to the scene and searched the area, but did not locate the suspect, police said. They then interviewed several witnesses “who provided critical information.”
Shortly after, a Walpole patrolman spotted the suspect — who was identified as Springer — and pulled him over, police said. At one point during the investigation, a struggle broke out between Springer and police, but no one was injured.
After arresting Springer, officers took him to Wrentham District Court for his arraignment, police said. The judge ordered him released on personal recognizance bail with conditions, according to court records.
Walpole police are still investigating the incident. No further information has been released.
