Maine Celtics dominate Oklahoma City Blue, 1 win from G League title

The G League Maine Celtics just keep on winning games, and they’re now just one win away from taking home some hardware. The C’s beat the Oklahoma City Blue in a blowout 106-86 victory in Game 1 of the G League Finals. Boston now leads the best-of-three series 1-0.

The Celtics got heavy production from their a pair of their two-way signees in guard JD Davison (23 points, 12 assists) and wing Drew Peterson (20 points, 11 rebounds). Not just that, but big man Neemias Queta, who was promoted from two-way to standard contract recently, put up 20 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Second-round pick Jordan Walsh also had 15 points and six rebounds.

It was a dominant effort right from tipoff for the Celtics, who had a 33-14 lead after the first quarter. The Thunder weren’t able to mount a comeback from there as the C’s kept the pressure on.

The series will shift to Oklahoma City for Game 2, which is set for 8 p.m. Thursday on ESPNEWS. If there is a Game 3, it will be at 9 p.m. April 15 at the Portland Pavilion. That means the C’s have two shots at one victory to get the G League title.

The Celtics finished second in the Eastern Conference, which afforded them the bye into the second round. From there, they beat the No. 6 seed Delaware Blue Coats in the East semifinals, then they beat the No. 5-seeded Long Island Nets in the East Finals. The G League playoffs are all single elimination until the Finals, which is a best-of-three series.

For now, the Celtics organization will have their eyes on the G League squad for the next couple days. The NBA squad is finishing up the regular season, hoping for its own run to the NBA Finals. But the G League squad will get some time in the spotlight as its deep playoff run continues.
