LPGA standout Megan Khang suggests best spots to watch FM Championship

It’s been nearly three decades since the LPGA Tour last teed up in Massachusetts, and Brockton native Megan Khang is looking forward to returning to her roots.

The tournament is scheduled from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 at TPC Boston in Norton, where Khang, a three-time member of the U.S. Solheim Cup team, played two years in the club’s juniors program.

At 11 years old, Khang, the youngest qualifier for the 2009 USGA Junior Amateur, helped five-time PGA Tour winner Camilo Villegas and LIV Golf’s Anthony Kim capture the Deutsche Bank Championship’s Pro-Am on the Norton course.

“It was an incredible experience,” Khang said. “Seeing how they took us under their wing and got the crowd going and cheering for us … It was a lot of fun.”

Now it’s Khang’s turn to headline on her home turf. The 2023 CPKC Women’s Open champion offered a suggestion to anyone attending the event for the best place to watch. She pointed to TPC Boston’s holes 16, 17, and 18.

“I don’t think there’s a bad spot out there on the golf course,” she said. “I think 16 through 18, there’s just so much excitement. It’s going to be right there towards the end. It’s a gorgeous golf course. It’s going to be in pristine conditions and I’m fully excited to have everyone come and see it myself.

“I’ve always been a fan of the closing holes,” she added. “It’s a crazy spot to be in.”

She expects to have many familiar faces in those galleries.

“All the family and friends are going to come out and support me and not only myself, but they’re going to see some great golf and the girls are going to put on a great show of gamesmanship and it’s going to be a fun first year,” she said. “It’s going to be very exciting. The first of many … maybe I’ll have a young junior playing with me in a pro-am this time.”
