Lottery ticket worth $1 million sold at this Mass. convenience store

One lucky Massachusetts State Lottery player scored big, claiming a seven-figure prize Friday.

The lucky player won $1 million playing the “$15,000,000 MONEY MAKER” scratch ticket game. The winning ticket, which cost $30 to purchase, was sold at Arlington Convenience in Arlington. The prize amounts to $650,000 before taxes, according to the State Lottery’s website.

The odds of winning $1 million, the second-highest prize that can be won in “Mass Cash,” are one in 2.268 million. The odds of winning $15 million, the top award that can be won in the lottery game, are one in 6.048 million.

The lucky ticket-holder who took home the $1 million prize Friday was not the only fortunate lottery player in Massachusetts this week. On Thursday, a Cumberland Farms gas station in the commonwealth sold the final $1 million prize left to be claimed in one of the State Lottery’s scratch ticket games. On Tuesday, someone in the state won $25,000 a year for life in the “Lucky for Life” drawing, and on Monday, seven players in Massachusetts won prizes, including two $100,000 awards in Worcester, during the Powerball jackpot drawing for $1.07 billion.

The State Lottery releases a list each day of all the winning lottery tickets worth at least $600 sold or claimed in the commonwealth. Overall, there were 641 tickets worth at least $600 sold or claimed Friday, including 22 in Springfield, 24 in Worcester and 68 in Boston.

The two largest lottery prizes won in the state so far this year were the $33 million and $31 million Mega Millions jackpots won a week apart from one another in January.

The $31 million ticket, which was bought at a Gibbs gas station in Woburn, was won during the Tuesday, Jan. 3 drawing. The winner of the award claimed their prize on March 8 through the S & L Trust.

The $33 million ticket, which was bought at a Stop & Shop in Belchertown, was won during the Tuesday, Jan. 24 drawing. The winner of the award claimed their prize on March 1 through the Skylark Group Trust.
