Live updates: Second day of hearings on ex-trooper Michael Proctor’s bid to get job back

Michael Proctor, the former trooper fired in connection with the Karen Read case, is set to appear before the Civil Service Commission on Wednesday for the second of five days of hearings on his bid to get his job back.

Proctor was fired by State Police on March 19 over misconduct during the Read investigation, which included sending derogatory texts about her and messages to non-law enforcement detailing the investigation at its early stages.

The former trooper has appealed his termination to the commission, which reviews “appeals filed by certain state and municipal employees…including discipline.”

The hearing is being held in person in Boston. Proctor attended the hearing with his wife and other supporters.

On the first hearing day, State Police called Det. Lt. Kevin Dwyer, the internal affairs investigator on Proctor’s case, to the stand. Dwyer testified under both direct and cross-examination. Proctor’s lawyer will continue his cross-examination of Dwyer on Wednesday.

Neither Proctor nor his wife spoke to reporters as they departed the commission’s offices in downtown Boston.
