Legendary goth rock singer cancels 2025 tour due to ‘health issues’

Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy has canceled his upcoming tour because of his health.

“It is with regret that, due to recent health issues, I will be unable to perform for you this summer,” Murphy wrote in an Instagram post Monday, June 2.

“I am very much saddened by this news. This situation is hopefully temporary, and we will be able to announce shows in support of Silver Shade at some point in the near future,” the singer continued. “Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. Love Peter x.”

The 67-year-old had festival dates scheduled throughout the U.K. and Europe from June through August. Murphy’s forthcoming tour was going to be in support of the singer’s tenth studio album “Silver Shade,” which was released on May 9. The project was Murphy’s first new solo album since 2014’s “Lion.”

Murphy has made limited live appearances in recent years after suffering a heart attack in 2019. Bauhaus reformed in 2022 for a U.S. tour that was later axed when Murphy entered “a rehabilitation facility to attend to his health and well-being,” according to Billboard. He also canceled shows in 2023 and 2024 due to illness and an unexpected medical procedure.

Murphy is best known as the lead singer of the post-punk band Bauhaus. The group released four albums between 1980 and 1983, including the pioneering gothic rock anthem “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.” A reunited Bauhaus released a final album in 2008.

Murphy went solo in the ‘80s and scored a Hot 100 hit with “Cuts You Up” in 1990. His comeback album “Silver Shade,” features collaborations with Boy George and members of Tool and Nine Inch Nails.
