Kristaps Porzingis reacts to J. Cole shoutout on new album

BOSTON — When rapper J. Cole released his latest album, Kristaps Porzingis didn’t expect to get a shoutout in the process. But that’s what he got as the Celtics big man was mentioned in J. Cole’s newest album, “Might Delete Later.”

“To be honest, as soon as I woke up, a lot of messages and people were like, ‘Oh, he shouted you out’ and stuff,” Porzingis said after the Celtics beat the Kings. “So it was pretty cool. … This is obviously pretty cool to get shouted out by J. Cole, but nothing in it that I was like hoping for, but it was pretty cool.”

Porzingis said he obviously prefers to win a championship when asked where the shoutout ranks in his career accolades. But in the end, he said it was a neat moment.

Porzingis is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career playing with the Celtics. The big man was brought in to bolster Boston’s offense, and that’s been the case early on even though the counting stats are down. But it’s clear Porzingis’ two-way play has helped elevate the team, and they hope that play will carry over into the playoffs.

For now, the Celtics will finish out the regular season while keeping their guys like Porzingis fresh. They have that luxury as they have already clinched the best record in the NBA. Then it’ll be the playoffs soon, where the C’s hope they can hang Banner No. 18 after a dominant regular season.

“We were experimenting a lot today,” Porzingis said. “And yeah, it wasn’t perfect from our side, but we were experimenting and working on some stuff from our side and still came up with a win. So that’s pretty cool.”
