John Harbaugh, Giants expected to finalize deal (report)

While the deal was not final as of early Thursday morning, John Harbaugh and the Giants are expected to finalize an agreement to hire the storied coach.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported late Wednesday that, barring a setback, the former long-time Baltimore Ravens coach will join the Giants.

“The deal is not final and contract numbers still are being negotiated,” Schefter posted on X, adding that a source said, “There still is a lot to work through.”

The Ravens fired Harbaugh on Jan. 6 after Baltimore was eliminated from the playoffs in a Week 18 loss to the Steelers.

The 63-year-old was the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL behind Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin, who stepped down from his role with the Steelers earlier this week. In 18 seasons, Harbaugh went 180-113 and had a 13-11 playoff record. He won a Super Bowl with the team in 2013.

Harbaugh immediately became the top head coach target for the various vacancies in the NFL.

The Giants, meanwhile, have gone 7-27 over the past two seasons. The team fired former New England Patriots assistant Brian Daboll in November, with Mike Kafka acting as the interim coach over the team’s final seven games.

According to ESPN, Harbaugh interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons Monday and was expected to meet with the Tennessee Titans Thursday.

The Giants brought him into their facility Wednesday morning, where he stayed into the early evening before flying home on Giants owner Steve Tisch’s private jet.
