Jimmy Butler: NBA must look at Bucks for tampering in Damian Lillard trade

Damian Lillard is headed to the Bucks in a stunning deal that shocked the NBA world Wednesday. That’s a huge change as Lillard’s camp made it clear he wanted to go the Heat throughout the summer. But less than a week before training camp opens next week, the Blazers moved Lillard to the Bucks.

Heat star Jimmy Butler — who likely was looking to play with Lillard — had a message for the NBA when it came to the deal, though. Soon after news of the trade broke, Butler took to social media to make a suggestion to the league.

“Yo, NBA, man,” Butler said on an Instagram story. “Y’all need to look into the Bucks for tampering. Y’all do. I’m just going to put that out there. Y’all didn’t hear it from me. But I heard it through somebody else. Look at them for tampering.”

The Heat are coming off an NBA Finals appearance as they lost to the Nuggets. But they impressed as they beat the Bucks and Celtics during the playoffs last season. When Lillard’s camp said he only wanted to play in Miami months ago, that appeared to be the expectation this summer.

But the Blazers were patient as they were also unimpressed with what the Heat were offering in any deal. So while Lillard made his trade request months ago, the Blazers didn’t budge. Instead, they shopped their star to other organizations with the Raptors even looking like a dark-horse team.

At the end, the Bucks are the winners of the Lillard sweepstakes in a shocking deal. They’ll get to pair Lillard with Giannis Antetokounmpo now as the Bucks look to win another title to go along with their 2021 ring.
