Jaylen Brown could consider dunk contest ‘if the people want it’

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jaylen Brown had one of the best dunks of his career when he rose up and jammed it on the Kings’ Trey Lyles. That’s saying something considering Brown has had some impressive dunks over the years as he’s quickly becoming one of the league’s best in-game dunkers.

Here’s a look at the play midway through the Celtics’ blowout win over the Kings on Wednesday.

The dunk was noteworthy, enough so that Oshae Brissett made a joke about it after the game. The C’s forward crashed some media interviews in the locker room, so he asked Brown who his next victim will be when it comes to his next posterizing dunk. Brown joked Brissett made him sound like Jeffery Dahmer.

But if Brown wants a bigger stage for some of his high-flying heroics, there is the annual dunk contest during All-Star weekend. Brown was asked about whether he’d consider participating as part of the festivities.

“Who knows,” Brown said. “Man, I’m focused on getting my team ready for what’s next come and taking those next steps. We’ll see. I haven’t put any thought into it. Maybe if the people want it. Enough people ask for it, we’ll get it. As of now, I’m not really thinking about it.”

So there hasn’t been too much thought put into it from Brown’s side. But with each poster dunk he puts up this season, perhaps he will consider it some more going forward. For now, he can keep putting together some impressive in-game dunks.

“Just all instinct,” Brown said of his dunks. “That’s all it is. You kind of read-and-react as I see the parts kind of moving. Then the defense making the rotations, you kind of know where to go and when to go and kind of the game tells you what to do.”
