Those who love hanging out at The Tall Ship in East Boston during the summer now have an excuse to check out the popular hangout spot this winter.
After announcing it last month, The Rink at The Tall Ship in East Boston officially opened on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The setup has turned the waterfront venue into a winter village, complete with ice skating, ice bumper cars and a chalet lounge in addition to seasonal sips and bites.
The Rink’s centerpiece is an outdoor ice rink where skaters can go lap after lap while taking in views of the Boston skyline. Skaters of all skill levels can reserve a 60-minute time slot online starting at $18 (before fees).
Ticket holders are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes before their designated time slot to check in, pick up their skates and lace up. Visitors can either bring their own skates or rent ones for $7.
The Rink at The Tall Ship is open daily rain or shine, but may close for heavy rain or snow. Hours are 3-10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday through Sunday. Ice skating sessions are also available.
Those looking for a bit more excitement can smash into one another on the ice bumper cars. It costs $15 for the 8-minute rides, which are on a first come, first serve basis even with an advanced ticket purchase.
Once they are done smashing into each other, winter thrill seekers can refuel with festive snacks and sips from The Rink’s food trailers. Hungry visitors can warm up with clam and corn chowder, grilled cheese or Belgian waffles with maple syrup or chocolate drizzle. Hot cocoa and other beverages are available as well.
Visitors can also browse for local handcrafted gifts, specialty sweets and Rink at the Tall Ship-branded swag from market stalls located onsite. The venue also plans to host themed-nights and other community-oriented events.
The Rink at The Tall Ship is located at 1 East Pier Drive, East Boston. Valet parking is available onsite for $30 per vehicle or street parking can be found nearby. The Tall Ship is also accessible via the Maverick stop on the Blue Line.
