If you’re a Bay Stater who loves the German-American tradition of divining the changing of the seasons from the behavior of small, furry creatures, don’t bother getting up early to watch Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil!
Massachusetts has its own groundhogs, and one of them purportedly makes more accurate predictions.
Since 2008, Ms. G — Massachusetts’ official state groundhog — has emerged from her home at Mass Audubon’s Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary in Lincoln the morning of Feb. 2 to — as lore dictates — look for her shadow.
If she sees it, it means there will be six more weeks of winter. If she doesn’t, she forecasts an early spring.
The sanctuary is set to livestream Ms. G’s divinations on its Facebook page on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 9:30 a.m.
Additionally, for those in the Worcester area (or who like to sleep in), a Sunday ticket to the Worcester EcoTarium will get you entrance to see its resident groundhog — Cornelia — look for her shadow at 11:30 a.m.
Of course, if you’re a traditionalist who absolutely MUST watch men in top hats — known as the “Inner Circle” — translate Punxsutawney Phil’s predictions from “groundhogese” to english, here’s where you can watch it online.
