Holloway has been unable to defeat Poirier so far, losing to him at UFC 143, Holloway’s first ever UFC match, and at UFC 236, where they headlined in a bout for the Interim Lightweight Championship. Poirier won the first match with an armbar in the first round and he took the second by unanimous decision after five rounds of action.
And now, Poirier gets his second shot at the BMF Title after losing to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 on July 29, 2023 thanks to a head kick that knocked him out in the second round. Poirier had one his first meeting with Gaethje with a fourth round knockout, and then a year later he defeated Holloway at UFC 236.
Holloway would eventually go on to get his own shot at Gaethje, which is how he ended up with the BMF Title. At UFC 300 on April 13, 2024, Holloway earned a knockout in the final seconds of the fifth round by way of a right hand to the chin, claiming the belt to cement his status as one of the toughest in UFC. And now he will defend that title against a man he has yet to best in the octagon.
There are five matches lined up for the Early Prelims on the card and four on the Prelims. The Main Card features five bouts.
