Led by Lionel Messi, Inter Miami was third on the table in the Eastern Conference with a 19-8-7 record. The Whitecaps were second in the West at 18-9-7, despite having the same number of points as first place San Diego FC. After sweeping FC Dallas in the first round, Vancouver bested LAFC in penalties after playing to a 2-2 draw, that included surviving extra time a man down. Emmanuel Sabbi and Mathias Laborda both scored in the first half before the club almost let the match slip away thanks to a pair of second half goals, including the equalizer off a free kick following the red card by Tristan Blackmon. The squad didn’t need penalties in the Western Conference Final though, as Vancouver took down San Diego FC, 3-1, behind a race from Brian White and an own goal.
