How many people attended The Big E during opening weekend?

Despite good weather this weekend, opening weekend at The Big E didn’t have as many people as it did in 2022.

Overall, there were 273,040 people who attended The Big E from Friday through Sunday. Opening day had 86,212 people in attendance.

However, in 2022, 286,848 guests arrived at The Big E during opening weekend. That included a record setting opening day of 87,604.

Monday’s rainy day might put a damper on attendance numbers. But it’ll still be open.

“Visiting the Fair on a rainy day is one of the best kept secrets in New England, as some Big E Lovers only visit on days when the forecast calls for rain,” The Big E’s website states.

The website suggests visiting one of its 40 buildings, including Avenue of the States and Storrowton Village. For those looking for something fun to do inside Avenue of the States buildings, consider drinking around New England — a nod to the TikTok trend of “drinking around the world” at Epcot in Disney World.

People can also see animals in the Farm-A-Rama building. This includes seeing the Clydesdales, watching chicks hatch and seeing goats. A fake cow gives children the opportunity to try milking it.

Five attendance records were broken over the course of 17 days in 2022. This included an all-time single day attendance record on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 when 177,789 people attended the fair. Daily attendance records were also set on opening day with 87,604; the second Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, with 83,715; and third Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, with 119,877.

The Big E lasts from Sept. 15-Oct. 1. Stay up-to-date on all The Big E news, food, music, schedules and more with MassLive’s free newsletter.
