DeBrusk said he talked to Ullmark before the game.
“We were just catching up on his family and stuff like that,” said DeBrusk, who said he asked Ullmark to go easy on him. “I was asking him for one. I needed one. I hadn’t scored one in a bit.
“It’s weird seeing him on the other side. It was great to see him. I miss him,” DeBrusk added. “I wish him the best. But obviously tonight I was trying to get one on him, but I was lucky enough to get too.”
DeBrusk hadn’t scored since Nov. 7. He has five goals and eight assists this season. He and the Canucks are at Boston on Tuesday.
Ullmark, who won the 2023 Vezina Trophy in Boston before being traded this offseason, has struggled in his first season in Ottawa. He’s 4-7-1 with a 3.00 goals against average and an .881 save percentage.
