How former Bruins are faring with new teams in the playoffs

Most of the members of the 2022-23 Bruins who signed or were traded elsewhere have spent the 2023-24 as spectators. Only four made the playoffs and only two are still playing.

Here is alook at each of them:

Dmitry Orlov, Carolina Hurricanes — The short-time Bruins defenseman has been a stalwart for the Hurricanes, who fell behind two games to none to the Rangers in a double OT loss on Tuesday. Orlov has two goals and an assist in seven playoff games this year

Tyler Bertuzzi, Toronto Maple Leafs — A year ago, in his first season in the NHL postseason, Bertuzzi resurrected his Playoff Bert persona from junior hockey as one of Boston’s best players. But his playoff history couldn’t overcome the Leafs much longer history of playoff futility. He had a goal and three assists in seven games. He’ll be a free agent again in the offseason.

Craig Smith, Dallas Stars — Smith, who’d fallen out of the rotation in Boston found a role in Dallas. didn’t play in Games 1 and 2, but had two assists in Games 3-7 and was in the lineup for Game 1 against Colorado in the second round.

Mike Reilly, New York IslandersReilly was reborn this year on Long Island becoming a key part of the NYI defense. He played all five playoff games and had a goal and an assist but was a minus-3 when they were eliminated by Carolina.

Missed the playoffs:

Nick Foligno, Chicago Blackhawks — Tomas Nosek, New Jersey Devils, Connor Clifton, Buffalo Sabres, Garnet Hathaway, Philadelphia Flyers, A.J. Greer, Calgary Flames, Taylor Hall, Chicago Blackhawks.
