HOLYOKE — Holyoke lived up to its namesake as the Paper City on June 7 with the first-ever Paper Festival. The daylong event, held at De La Luz Soundstage on Race Street, offered free events for the whole family, all centered around the power of paper.
In the late 1800s, Holyoke produced an estimated 80% of the writing paper in the country. The Paper Festival honored that legacy with events and workshops that included papermaking with Micha Haftl, silkscreen posters with Barby Beauvais, Zine-making with Sally Pirie, and a paper airplane contest.
