Holocaust Remembrance Event

Holyoke – The Greater Holyoke Council for Human Understanding invites the public to the 2024 Holocaust Remembrance Event at the Holyoke Council on Aging, 291 Pine Street on Wednesday, May 8, at 5:30p.m.

Dedicated to the memory of founding members Dolores Stein and Sue Ellen Panitch, the 2024 Holocaust Remembrance Event will feature a showing of the CNN Special Report Voices of Auschwitz, narrated by award winning journalist and commentator, Wolf Blitzer. This 2015 documentary commemorates the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

The film highlights the survival of four youngsters: Anita, Martin, Rene and Eva. Remarkable, they survived because of something they possessed that was coveted by the Nazi leaders at Auschwitz.

Their stories are important. As the number of Holocaust survivors diminishes, these voices of Auschwitz become even more important to hear.

Join in as we honor the memory of those whose voices were silenced by this tragic time in history and, as we reflect on the importance of tolerance and understanding in the community, we also honor founding members Dolores Stein and Sue Ellen Panitch.

The Holyoke High School Madrigals, directed by the remarkable Mark Todd, will perform music especially tailored for this event.

Co-sponsored by the Holyoke Council on Aging and the family of Martin Stein, the Annual Holocaust Remembrance Event is free to the public. Good Will donations are gratefully accepted and will go toward the Student Scholarship Fund.
