Much of the interior of Massachusetts will see off-and-on rainfall on Tuesday, with scattered showers passing through in the morning and then redeveloping in the afternoon, bringing a chance for a few thunderstorms.
Tuesday’s showers are part of a stretch of unsettled weather in the Bay State that began on Monday and will continue for much of the work week, bringing rain and thunderstorms almost daily.
In Boston, residents can expect little rainfall on Tuesday, with forecasters projecting a chance of showers before 10 a.m. and then again after 9 p.m. Worcester, though, will see showers and a chance for thunderstorms after 3 p.m. on Tuesday and continuing throughout the evening, with up to a quarter of an inch of rainfall possible. In the western part of the state, the chances of precipitation on Tuesday are 30%.
In The Berkshires, forecasts say showers could begin around noon, with a 50% chance of precipitation on Tuesday. The rain will continue until about 11 p.m. and should lessen in intensity as day turns to night, forecasters said.
On Tuesday night, the South Coast, Cape Cod and the Islands could see heavy rainfall, with 1 to 2 inches possible on the Cape and Islands, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
On Wednesday, the rain will continue though areas north of Interstate 90 will likely be spared the worst of it, forecasters said. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also likely on Thursday, with a chance for strong to severe storms in some areas.
Massachusetts will get a break from the rain on Friday, continuing into the weekend, with seasonably warm temperatures expected before a warm-up on Sunday that could bring 90-degree temperatures.
