Here are the 20 people recommended to pick Amherst’s next superintendent

Following major controversy at the Amherst Regional School District related to staff mistreatment of LGBTQIA+ students leading to a slew of resignations and employment separations, the district is one step closer to finding a new superintendent.

Key to the process of selecting a new leader is a 20-person committee comprised of members of the community who will interview applicants and select final candidates, according to school committee member Jennifer Shiao.

“We’re looking for people who maybe haven’t been actively involved in school issues before for whatever reason to serve on the search committee,” Shiao told MassLive in the beginning of January. “We’re looking to have as representative as possible, a group of people to represent what the community is looking for in a superintendent.”
