Greenfield shortstop Anna Bucala recorded her 100th career hit last night in the Green Wave’s 9-1 win over Millis in the Round of 16 of the State Tournament, reaching a major milestone that is indicative of a highly successful career.
Bucala didn’t waste any time notching the landmark hit, either, as she knocked a double to right-center field in the first at bat of the game. This season, Bucala hit .382 and tallied at least one hit in all but four of Greenfield’s games, while adding in 19 RBIs.
The senior has been a driving force for Greenfield throughout its ongoing playoff run this season. Over the course of a dominant past few weeks for the Green Wave, one that saw them win the Western Mass. Class C Championship, Bucala is batting over .500.
In the program’s win over Franklin County Technical School in the WMass title game, Bucala was one of four Greenfield batters to get a hit, and she also recorded a stolen base in the game.
One of her top performances this year came in Greenfield’s 21-0 victory over Springfield International Charter School on May 21, where she went 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
Bucala’s history of clutch performances extends beyond this year, though.
In Greenfield’s state championship-winning season in 2023, Bucala recorded seven hits in five state tournament games, including a pair of hits, a walk and four RBIs in the Green Wave’s victory over Turners Falls to clinch the state title.
As Bucala continues along in her impressive career, she can now claim a key milestone. The Green Wave will host West Boylston tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Round of 8 of the Division V State Tournament.
