BOSTON — There were points earlier in the season this year where erasing a two-goal lead to earn a point for reaching overtime would have been a positive for the Bruins.
But with 25 games left in the season, failing to get both points at home in their 3-2 overtime loss to a rebuilding Ducks team, felt like a missed opportunity.
“It’s tough to take positives out of it, especially where we are in the standings,” said Morgan Geekie, who scored the tying goal late. “We let those points slip away. It took a little while to get going tonight. It shows resiliency to battle back but at this time of year I don’t think one point is going to do it.”
Elias Lindholm admitted frustration, especially that they fell behind 2-0 after the first period.
“We’re desperate for points. Obviously early in the season if you come back late like that, it still stings a little bit, but you came back and got the point,” he said. “Right now we’re in a tough spot. We need every point we can get. To put ourselves in that spot after the first is tough.
“We’ve got to treat every game like a playoff game. There’s 24 games left. We’ve got win a lot of games to be able to get in,” he continued. “We can’t look too far ahead. We can only focus on the Toronto game and getting two points there. Every game is super important, it sucks to not get two tonight.”
The TD Garden crowd booed the Bruins after their lackluster first period. Lindholm thought it was justified.
“We put ourselves in a tough spot there being down 2-0 after the first, not playing nearly as good as we needed to,” he said. “At that point we deserved it. We played bad. We came into the locker room and everybody is (mad) and wants to be better. At that time we deserved to get booed. They know hockey here and at that point we were’t playing good enough. We picked it up after. It was a wake up call for everyone.”
