A mix of freezing drizzle and black ice could snarl the morning commute on Tuesday and forecasters say commuters should make extra time to get to their destinations.
The primary areas of concern are northern parts of Central Massachusetts and Eastern Massachusetts — the Bedford to Worcester to Lawrence area, according to National Weather Service forecasters. Forecasters set down a Special Weather Statement that includes Framingham, Lowell, Lawrence, Gloucester, Milford, Worcester, Cambridge and Boston.
Other areas of the state, including parts of Central Massachusetts north of Worcester and The Berkshires are under a Winter Weather Advisory warning of messy conditions during the commute.
“Icy travel may impact the morning commute…especially along bridges and overpasses,” forecasters wrote.
Forecasters anticipate a “raw and chilly” Tuesday, with temperatures in the high 30s to low 40s in most areas. Much of the state should see clouds and patchy drizzling rain for most of the day.
As Tuesday gives way to Wednesday, Massachusetts is set to be hit hard by a “dynamic storm system” that could dump up to 4 inches of rain with wind gusts up to 60 mph.
