BOSTON — Like the 19,064 shots he’s turned away over his career, Jonathan Quick deflected credit for the milestone he earned on Thursday night.
With his 24-save effort in the Rangers’ 5-2 win over the Bruins at TD Garden, Quick tied Ryan Miller for the most career NHL victories by an American-born goaltender with 391.

Quick, who is from Connecticut, played two seasons at UMass and led the Minutemen to their first NCAA Tournament in 2007. He struggled to find his game as a professional initially playing in both the ECHL and AHL. He became an NHL regular in 2008-09 and emerged as a true No. 1 standout in 2009-10 when he won 39 games for the Kings.
Now 38, Quick is in his first year with the Rangers and is 17-5-0-2 this season. He entered Thursday’s game ranked in the top 10 in the NHL in both goals against average and save percentage.
In 17 seasons, most of which came with Los Angeles, Quick is 391-282-86. He’s been the primary goalie on two Stanley Cup winners and the backup on a third. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2012.
“It means I played with a lot of good players over the years. It takes a lot to win one game. You need coaching, four lines, six D,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate to play with a lot of great players. I’m thankful for the work they put in to allow me to achieve that.”
