Rodriguez, who had battled through health issues in 2022, was 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA in 2023 for the Detroit Tigers to reestablish his value.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the signing and tweeted:

“BREAKING: Left-handed starter Eduardo Rodriguez and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a four-year contract for around $20 million a year, pending physical, sources familiar with the agreement tell ESPN.”

Considered one of the top pitchers available this offseason, Rodriguez, 30, joined the defending National League champs early in the process. Many teams and free agents have been waiting for Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to sign before making moves.

Rodriguez spent the first six seasons of his career in Boston where he was 64-39. He won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2018 before signing with the Tigers in 2022 for 5 years and $77,000,000 contract with an opt-out after 2023. He chose to opt out and increased his annual salary by nearly $5 million.
