Former Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers leaves stellar Raiders debut after dangerous hit

Jakobi Meyers was having a stellar debut for the Raiders on Sunday in their Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos. But it ended prematurely after he took a vicious hit from Kareem Jackson.

With just under three minutes left in the fourth quarter with Las Vegas leading 17-16, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo connected with Meyers on a pass, but was leveled by the Broncos safety Kareem Jackson on a dangerous hit that connected with Meyers’ head.

The wide receiver remained down on the field for several minutes surrounded by players taking a knee. He eventually got up and walked off the field with assistance. Meyers eventually made his way to the locker room.

The hit had ex-NFL cornerback Richard Sherman sending prayers to Meyers, who amassed his first-career multi-touchdown game.

Meyers had nine catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns — his second giving the Raiders the one-point lead in the fourth quarter — before Jackson’s hit.

The Raiders went on to win 17-16, but it’s unclear the extent of Meyers’ injury, but he was evaluated for a concussion after the game.
