Former Patriots WR has been ‘very impressive’ in Raiders practice, according to Jimmy Garoppolo

Jakobi Meyers is already making quite the impression on his new quarterback.

The former New England wide receiver signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in March where he joins ex-Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo, ex-offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and a few other players who once called New England home.

After the Raiders’ joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers, Garoppolo had nothing but high praise for Meyers.

“Jakobi’s been awesome, man,” Garoppolo told reporters on Thursday. “He had a helluva day today, too. He came ready today. He’s another one of those guys. Like I was saying about Hunter (Renfrow), you can look at his eyes and know like he’s made of the right (expletive).

“He’s been very impressive,” the QB added. “Big-body guy, can go up and get the ball, can jump out of a gym. It’s been fun.”

Meyers emerged as one of the Patriots’ best receivers over the last few seasons, which included a team-high 804 rushing yards last year. He amassed 866 in 2021.

Garoppolo and Meyers didn’t have the chance to be teammates in New England. The Patriots traded the quarterback to the 49ers in 2017, and Meyers signed with the Pats in 2019 as an undrafted free agent.

Now the two get a chance to work together as Meyers looks to carry what he did in 2022 over to his new team. Meyers, Garoppolo and McDaniels’ Raiders will welcome their old Patriots team to Allegiant Stadium on Oct. 15.
