Edge rusher Ronnie Perkins is back in the NFL after a stint in the UFL. On Monday, the Atlanta Falcons announced that they had signed the 2021 New England Patriots third-round pick.
Now in his fifth season, the 25-year-old Perkins is looking for his first big NFL breakthrough as a pass rusher. However, he did find some success last year with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.
Perkins has a unique spot in Patriots history. The third-round pick used to draft him was the compensatory selection New England got in return for Tom Brady leaving in free agency.
Perkins appeared in five games, recording 17 tackles and 3.5 sacks before being placed on injured reserve.
Injuries have been a recurring theme of Perkins’ career. The former Oklahoma pass rusher spent his first two seasons on injured reserve in New England. He was later cut at the end of training camp in 2023.
Perkins then landed with the Denver Broncos, appearing in seven games that season, recording 13 tackles and one quarterback hit. Perkins has yet to record an NFL sack.
Perkins returned to the Broncos in 2024, but was cut midway through September after landing on injured reserve once again. He later landed on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad.
