Former Celtics assistant coach has suggestion for Portland after Damian Lillard trade

The Portland Trail Blazers moved on from months-long trade rumors involving Damian Lillard on Wednesday when he was reportedly traded to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a three-team deal with the Phoenix Suns.

Portland got a haul for the seven-time All-Star, which included Jrue Holiday and a bevy of unprotected draft picks. And one former Celtics assistant coach had a suggestion for the Trail Blazers that would certainly benefit Boston.

“Portland, buy Jrue out so he can sign to the Celtics,” Turner posted to the X platform shortly after news of the trade broke. “I’m trying to see something real quick.”

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on “SportsCenter” that Portland will look to move Holiday as it tries to rebuild. And someone of Holiday’s caliber — a championship-level point guard, two-time All-Star and five-time NBA All-Defensive Team member — would fit in nicely on the Celtics’ roster.

The Trail Blazers will likely look to maximize their potential return for a player like Holiday.

The Celtics have been connected to Holiday in the past when Danny Ainge was the president of basketball operations.

It’s unclear what Holiday’s future holds, but it will certainly be an interesting storyline to keep track of.
