Former 1st rounder, starting lineman won’t play for Patriots on Sunday

FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots are heading into their Week 13 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts relatively healthy.

On Friday, the team had perfect practice attendance meaning not a single player missed practice this week. Later, the team didn’t rule out a single player on their 53-man roster.

Now, that doesn’t mean the Patriots are at full strength – multiple players have been limited – but having everyone practice at this point in the season is a good sign. That’s especially true since the Patriots have the latest bye week in the NFL, which is next week following Sunday’s game.

Although no one on the Patriots active roster was listed as ‘out,’ the Patriots didn’t activate and ruled out Cole Strange on Friday.

The 2022 first-round pick returned to practice last week but he still hasn’t been placed back on the Patriots 53-man roster. On Friday, Jerod Mayo said expects the veteran offensive lineman to return at some point this season.

“Cole won’t play this Sunday,” Mayo said. “I will say one thing. I think I said this last time. Look, he’s done a great job. Every day in here rehabbing and every day in here in all the meetings. The mental aspect when he’s ready to go shouldn’t be too big of a hurdle for him. Excited to get him out there, but not this week.”

The Patriots have 21 days to place Strange on their active roster or he’ll revert to the injured reserve for the rest of the 2024 season.

“I anticipate Cole playing football for us this year,” Mayo said.

The Patriots had 13 players limited in practice this week. On Friday, they ruled nine as questionable.

The most noteworthy name was receiver DeMario Douglas, who’s dealing with a new ankle injury. Douglas is second on the Patriots in receiving with 48 catches for 478 yards and a touchdown. The receiver is questionable for Sunday.

After returning to the team on Tuesday, Jabrill Peppers was also a limited participant this week due to a knee injury and he too is questionable to play against the Colts.
