A Boston-bound flight was forced to slam on its breaks while taking off from Los Angeles at 154 miles per hour Sunday night after a cargo plane crossed a runway without authorization, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and WCVB.
Around 10:35 p.m., AeroLogic Flight 619 crossed a runway at Los Angeles International Airport without authorization as American Airlines Flight 2453 was taking off, according to a statement from the FAA.
By the time air traffic controllers asked the AeroLogic plane to stop, it had already landed, WCVB reported. They then told the American Airlines plane to cancel its takeoff, leading them to halt the plane abruptly while cruising at 154 miles per hour.
The planes were just under a mile apart from one another at their closest proximity, the FAA said. No one was injured during the incident, WCVB reported.
AeroLogic did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday night, but American Airlines shared a statement on the incident.
“We thank our crew members for their quick action and our customers for their understanding,” the statement reads.
The American Airlines flight took off two hours and fifteen minutes after its original departure time and landed safely in Boston Monday morning.
