Fatal tractor-trailer crash at interchange in Attleboro delays traffic

UPDATE: The crash scene is cleared and all lanes at the I-95 and I-295 interchange have reopened as of 9:55 a.m., according to Massachusetts State Police.

A person was killed in a crash in Attleboro early Wednesday morning at the Interstate 95 north and Interstate 295 interchange, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Both lanes on the highway were closed as of 9 a.m., police said, with traffic moving through the breakdown lane. There were significant traffic delays as a result, police said.

At 6:35 a.m. on Aug. 30, State Police arrived at the highway interchange and found a car and a tractor-trailer that had collided, the department said.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Their identity will be released after their family has been notified, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, which was a 2007 Mack 600 truck owned by Demoulas Supermarkets and was pulling a trailer and car, was a 44-year-old man from Lowell. It is unclear at this time whether he was injured in the crash.

State Police were still on the scene as of 9:07 a.m. for crash reconstruction and preliminary investigation, the department said. Numerous units for State Police, including the detective unit for Bristol County, were investigating the crash, the department said,
