Fall River man killed in Gabriel House fire loved fishing, camping

A 78-year-old man killed in a fire at the Gabriel House assisted living facility in Fall River last week was remembered in his obituary for the joy he found in the company of his late dog, Precious.

Robert King was one of 10 people killed in the fire, which broke out just before 9:40 p.m. on July 13. His obituary notes he was “overcome with smoke inhalation” as the fire spread.

Born in Fall River, King served in both the Navy and the National Guard, serving during the Gulf War. Before his retirement, he worked at Rand McNally as a machine operator.

King went to lunch weekly with his two sisters, who visited him daily, according to the obituary. He also “very much enjoyed visits from his great-nephew,” the obituary recalled.

As a younger man, King loved both fishing and camping.

“Most notably, Robert found great joy and pleasure in the company of his late dog, ‘Precious’ who was his constant companion,” the obituary reads.

King’s funeral arrangements were private, according to the notice.
