Ex-Red Sox prospect from Garrett Crochet trade belts walk-off homer in High-A ball

Braden Montgomery is making an impact for the High-A Winston-Salem Dash.

The former Red Sox prospect sent Chicago in the Garrett Crochet trade ripped a walkoff home run on Thursday night in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Dash an 8-7 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Montgomery also hit a triple in the win.

The No. 4 prospect in Chicago’s system and No. 56 in all of baseball according to Baseball America, Montgomery was quickly promoted to High-A this season and has hit .267 with 6 home runs, 25 RBIs, and an .836 OPS in Winston-Salem. Now 22 years old, Montgomery was Boston’s first-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Two other pieces of the Crochet trade have made it to the big leagues in Chicago already — Chase Meidroth and Kyle Teel — while Wikelman Gonzalez is 5-0 with a 3.06 ERA in Triple-A Charlotte.

It’s unlikely the Red Sox are feeling any buyer’s remorse however.

Crochet has been dominant in Boston, posting a 2.35 ERA and 1.068 WHIP in his first 14 starts.
