EMS in Deerfield, Sunderland, Whately, and Cheshire FD land grants for cardiac gear

DEERFIELD — Last week, Sen. Edward J. Markey announced that four Massachusetts fire departments and emergency management services will share a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant totaling over $1 million.

The grant is part of the fiscal 2022 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which looks to benefit public health and safety by covering the cost of new equipment, including cardiac monitors, vehicle extrication equipment and chest compression devices.

The beneficiaries include: Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, $30,075, and South County EMS in Deerfield, Sunderland and Whatley, $47,619.

Cheshire will use its grant funds to obtain automated external defibrillators, otherwise known as AEDs, and chest compression devices. South County EMS will use its grant to obtain cardiac monitors.

“Massachusetts firefighters and emergency medical service providers are on the frontlines of protecting our friends, families and neighbors. These investments provide our fire departments and emergency medical services with the equipment these heroes need to serve as a lifeline for the communities they serve,” said Markey, D-Mass., in a statement.
