Electric motorcycle company rolls out patrol-ready bikes

A motorcycle once known for its quiet hum is starting to make more noise in law enforcement circles.

LiveWire, Harley-Davidson’s electric motorcycle brand, has released patrol-specific versions of its S2 Del Mar and S2 Alpinista models. Built with input from police and emergency services, the motorcycles are already rolling out to departments across the U.S. According to LiveWire, the St. Cloud Police Department in Florida is the first to acquire a fleet of the S2 Patrol Del Mar bikes.

Each model includes patrol-ready features like emergency lighting, a siren, hard cases, hand guards and crash protection. With no clutch and instant torque, the bikes are designed for quick takeoffs and easy handling in congested areas, LiveWire states.

Both models hit 0 to 60 mph in three seconds. The Del Mar offers a city range of 113 miles, while the Alpinista reaches 120 miles. Charging from 20% to 80% takes about 78 minutes with a Level 2 charger.

The electric drive eliminates gear-shifting and significantly reduces noise — a potential benefit for community policing or stealth operations.

According to LiveWire, a department operating a fleet of 10 electric motorcycles could save more than $24,000 annually through reduced fuel and maintenance costs.

The motorcycles are assembled in York, Pennsylvania.
