CHICOPEE — Two people were injured in a shooting in the city’s downtown area early Wednesday morning.

The shooting took place at about 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Hampden and Center streets. When officers arrived, they found several shell casings at the location, police said.

Shortly after police were dispatched to the area, they received reports that two people suffering from gunshot wounds walked into the emergency room at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Their wounds were not life-threatening, police said.
